Missed Opportunities cost Express in preseason

by Erie Express Media

Special thank you to Doug Horning and his Ohio Gladiators for a great clean pre season game this evening. It ended unlike any other in Express history but in the end we got some great work in against a very good football team.

Your Erie Express traveled to Alliance, Ohio this evening to face off against the Ohio Gladiators in our first of two pre season games. The Gladiators were runners up in the TPFL last season and they showed why they were in the championship game tonight.

The Gladiators got on the board first when they capitalized on an errant Express snap and downed the punter on Erie's 6 yard line.
Two plays later they would find the end zone from 2 yards out, the extra point was good and the Gladiators led 7-0

Erie would answer back when quarterback Marquelo Suel found Joey Scarabino on a 36 yard pass. Suel would run in the 2pt try and Erie took the lead 8-7 to end the first quarter.

The Gladiators would score on a 32yd pass as time expired in the first half. The extra point was good and the Gladiators took a 14-8 lead into the half.

Suel would again connect with Scarabino, this time from 42yds out but the 2pt try was no good. The Score was 14-14 and that is where it would end.

Defensively for the Express Osha Jackson appeared to be 100% back as he hauled in an INT and several pass break ups as did Marlon Tyree. Marlon's was returned for a TD which was negated due to penalty. Chris Foster recovered a Gladiators fumble also.

Again we wish to thank the Gladiators for their hospitality and a great clean game.

We are off this coming week but will be in action again May 13th as we travel to Pittsburgh, PA to face off against the Pittsburgh Saints. Erie narrowly defeated the Saints last season 7-6. We look forward to the game as they are always physical and clean with the Saints.
