Express Wins Conference Title a Defensive Battle!

by Dane Staaf

We wish to thank the Bobcats for an amazingly clean and physical game. It was exactly what you would expect a final four match up between the #2 and #3 teams to be. Amazing season for you and we are so very happy to hear that your player taken to the hospital is doing better and will be okay!

Thank you to our fans who came out and did an amazing job for us. Also thank you to Cathedral Prep for the use of the Hagerty Family Events Center. Great team, support and atmosphere there.

With tonight's 7-0 victory, your Erie Express advance to the TPFL Tier 1 Championship Game on August 24th. We will face off once again with the Columbus Fire who advanced with a 20-0 victory over the WPA Wildcatz.

The Express won the opening coin toss and deferred to the second half. The Bobcats first possession was mauled by the Express defense with sacks on downs 1-3 to force a 3 and out on their opening possession. Dlo James recorded the first one, Dlo and Kristopher Ford on second down and Dlo once again along with Allen Jones on third down.

The Bobcats would force a 3 and out themselves on Erie's first possession.

Erie would strike first when Allen Jones scored what proved to be the game winner from a yard out. Eric Rockwood added the extra point and Erie led 7-0 with 4:04 to play in the first quarter.

The Bobcats would drive down and attempt a field goal which was no good and returned by Erie's Jonathan Williams to the Express 38 yard line. This would end the first quarter.

The first half would end with Erie up 7-0.

The Bobcats would find themselves in scoring position with first and goal at the 3 yard line but a fumble into the end zone would give the Express the ball on their own 20 yard line.

This brought the third quarter to an end.

The Bobcats would once again put together a nice drive only to have Osha Jackson end it with an interception on the end zone.

The Bobcats would hold Erie to another 3 and out but on the ensuing punt. Special teams came up with a huge play when Rodkeithrick Hurry forced a Bobcats fumble and Alex Griffin pounced on it to give Erie the ball.

Erie was unable to do anything with the great field position and missed a 36 yard field goal attempt.

The Bobcats would throw an interception late in the game only to have Erie give them the ball right back with a fumble after along run.

At this point there was 1:05 to play in the game and the Bobcats had one final shot. Joe Kucenski and Deron Brown recorded a sack on the final drive and Ejay Scott intercepted the Bobcats to give Erie back the ball with :08 remaining. Victory formation was the call and Erie once again finds themselves in the Championship Game.

Ejay Scott and Osha Jackson recorded interceptions. Rod Hurry a caused fumble, Alex Griffin a fumble recovery and sacks by Deron Brown, Dlo James, Kris Ford, JaShaun Whitman, Anthony Wise, Joe Kucenski, Allen Jones and Javon Provitt.

The Championship game will be on August 24th, we will be the second game of the day so kickoff time and all game details will be posted later in the week.

Thank you again to everyone who helped get us here. We are here now, we might as well win it! GO EXPRESS!
