EXPRESS WIN IN EXCITING FASHION IN PITTSBURGH

Your Erie Express improve to 4-2 on the PAFL season with tonight's thrilling 20-19 victory over the previously undefeated (5-0) Steel City Bobcats at Cupples Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Express won the toss and deferred to the second half. The Bobcats received the opening kickoff and marched down the field eating 13:54 of the first quarter in the process before connecting on a 24yd field goal. The first quarter would come to an end with the Bobcats leading 3-0.

 

The Express offense struggled to get things going early on and were forced to punt. The Bobcats again marched down the field and were in scoring distance before Eddie Tate and JaShaun Whitman forced a fumble which was recovered by Kristopher Ford to stop the drive.

 

Erie would turn the ball over on the very next play when John Amon connected with Ryan Whitman on a 35yd pass which was ruled a fumble on the tackle.

 

The Bobcats would try a long pass in the end zone on their next possession but Stevie Crockett would intercept the pass to end that drive.

The Express would strike on their next possession when John Amon found Antonio Batista on a 70 yard pass. The play was sprung loose due to an amazing downfield block by Terry Jackson. The two point try was no good and Erie led 6-3 with 6:58 to play in the half.

 

The Bobcats would intercept Erie on their next possession and kicked another FG this time from 23yds to tie the game at 6-6 with 1:47 to play in the half.

Amon would again find Batista, this time from 6 yards out, the 2pt try was no good and the half would end with Erie up 12-6.

The teams traded possessions the entire 3rd and the score would remain the same to end the 3rd.

 

On 4th and goal from the 1yd line the Bobcats scored but the ensuing extra point was blocked by JaShaun Whitman. The score was 12-12 with 5:29 to play in the game.

The Bobcats scored on a 19yd run with the extra point being good to make the score 19-12 with 1:07 to play in the game.

Semaj Williams Troop would return the kickoff to the 20yd line so the Express needed to march 80yds with a minute and 2 timeouts.

 

John Amon put together an amazing drive connecting with Osha Jackson on a 32yd pass to place the ball at the 11yd line.  On 4th and 10 from the 11 with :02 on the clock, Amon would find Osha Jackson in the end zone to make the score 18-19 Bobcats. No time remained on the clock and the Express were without both of their kickers so they had to go for 2 and the win. Amon would again find Jackson on the 2pt try to give Erie the victory 20-19.

John Amon accounted for 3 TDs and a 2pt conversion on the day offensively. Antonio Batista hauled in 2 of those TD's with Osha Jackson hauling in the other and the 2pt conversion.

JaShaun Whitman recorded a sack, caused fumble and blocked kick. Stevie Crockett recorded n interception. Kristopher Ford a sack and fumble recovery for the defense.

Erie will be at home next week as we host the Mid-Ohio Patriots. The game will be played at Cathedral Prep's Haggerty Events Center located at 501 West 12th St in Erie, PA.
