Express Win in a Defensive Battle with Catz

by Paul Pennington

Thank you to the WPA Wildcatz on an absolutely amazing game today. Hard hitting from start to finish, as if that's anything new between us. TPFL Game of the Week did not disappoint.

Your Erie Express move to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in the TPFL after defeating the #1 ranked Western PA Wildcatz 7-0 at Carm Bonito Field in Waterford, PA.

This was an absolute defensive battle from start to finish. The Express were able to snap the gridlock with :04 remaining in the third when Express running back Lawrence Hughes (Youngstown State University) found the end zone from 56 yards out (How fitting...we see you bro 😍) Eric Rockwood (Alfred University) would add the extra point to make the score 7-0 Express.

The Wilcatz would find themselves in scoring position after a blocked Express punt. A personal foul penalty pushed them back 15 yards and the Express defense rose to the occasion to end that scoring threat. Erie would later get the ball back and be able to run out the clock to secure the 7-0 victory.

The Express defense played lights out shutting down an explosive Wildcatz offense. Sacks were recorded by John Williams, Kristopher Ford, Ty Tate, Anthony Wise, Rashaad Poindexter and Allen Jones.

Thank you to all the fans who came out today to support both teams. It was a huge game for both of us and your participation was felt and appreciated.
